Haute Cologne

Jean-Michel Duriez

Jean-Michel Duriez, master perfumer is the nose of the house. Former nose at Patou and Rochas, he also created fragrances for Dolce & Gabbana and Lacoste.

He signs the seven CRay compositions with a unique signature. At the heart of each fragrance runs a single accord made of —

Maté with its powerful, herbaceous facets

Osmanthus, a Chinese flower with a sweet, apricot fragrance and a base note elegantly reminiscent of leather.

Oak moss that features accents of forest and undergrowth, especially evocative of the forests in the Limousin region of France

The essence of juniper, a burnt wood recalls the scents of leather and chimney fire.

Four ingredients that compose the perfumes, in varying doses, sometimes as a watermark, sometimes more asserted. It is the unique signature one recognises from one fragrance to the next. This accord bears a name: Fleur de Cuir. It finds its full expression in the perfume Cuir de Fleur — which can be worn alone, or laid upon another fragrance of the house to extend its hold.

A unique object

A perfume is also what one sees it to be: the object one sets on the shelf, picks up in the palm, passes on. CRay stands in a lineage — that of the great Cologne bottles of the early 20th century, those thick bottles with ball stoppers, which Guerlain drew for Eau Impériale, which Lalique chiselled for Coty. Art déco understood that precious matter deserved an architecture. The CRay bottle takes up this vocabulary and plays it contemporary. It follows the silhouette of a C — chiselled, slender, adorned with the seigaiha motif. On the label, the monogram engraved in relief. A hand-turned ball stopper in FSC-certified wood crowns the whole. The bottle is blown in France. 40% recycled glass, and the lightest bottle in its category to date. Refillable, the object is made to last — the bottle stays, the water changes.

An eco-friendly commitment at each production stage

With 90% ingredients of natural origin, including certified organic vegetable alcohol, and streamlined formulas entirely free of harmful substances, CRay fragrances protect your health and the environment. To minimize our environmental impact and reduce waste as much as possible, the bottle is refillable and made from recycled and recyclable glass. The cardboard box is made of Italian paper composed of 40% recycled fibers, 55% paper from sustainably managed forests, and 5% hemp.
