Responsible high perfumery

The perfumer

Savoir-Faire

Reinventing the codes of high perfumery to limit environmental impact

True to our values, C-Ray combines the tradition of French high perfumery and sustainable luxury in a collection of delicate, fresh, and fully eco-designed perfumes.

Our fragrances contain over 90% naturally derived ingredients, certified organic sugarcane alcohol, up to 20% upcycled materials.

Good for both the wearer and the planet, our perfumes reside in elegant refillable bottles blown in France from 40% recycled glass, crowned with a hand-turned FSC-certified wooden ball stopper, refillable by design in a timeless style.

100% vegan perfumes

Our perfumes are not animal tested and don’t contain animal products.

A minimal and ultraclean formula

Because your health and the preservation of the planet are two unwavering priorities, our perfumes are formulated with 90% natural ingredients. Created with a base of organic vegetable alcohol, they contain no controversial ingredients suspected of being endocrine disruptors, like BHT and Benzyl Salicylate, and are completely free of the chemical additives, dyes, preservatives, and UV filters habitually used in classic perfumery.Because we are committed to providing quality products, the remaining 10% of ingredients are safe high-quality synthetic or upcycled to allow us to create a wider fragrance palette, conserve the Earth's natural resources, and preserve biodiversity.

Ethical and demanding sourcing

All Orpur-labeled* raw materials are responsibly sourced by Givaudan perfumers in their programs supporting local communities around the world. These sustainable industries ensure fair working conditions and fair trade for farmers, as well as the protection of local ecosystems: patchouli and vetiver from Indonesia, ylang-ylang from Madagascar, lavandin from France, and so on.Created in 2000 by Givaudan, the Orpur label* is awarded to outstanding natural raw materials. These high-quality ingredients are so precious they are often compared to gold.

Waste reduction and upcycling

To protect our natural resources and reduce waste, the perfume collection contains up to 20% upcycled ingredients, notably through the recovery of waste and by-products from the agro industry. The residuals from citrus and apples, used to make juices and compotes, are recycled to obtain orange, lemon and apple essences.

An eco-designed refillable bottle

Exceptionally light – a mere 106 g (3.74 oz) – to slip easily into a bag, our perfume bottles were carefully designed to minimize environmental impact, save resources like energy and water, and reduce CO2 emissions. Made from 40% recycled glass, they retain all of the luster and transparency of high-end perfume bottles. Their minimalist design allows them to be 100% recyclable — even our bottle caps are sculpted from PEFC-certified beech wood, sourced from sustainably managed forests. First polished by hand, they are then lacquered with a water-based paint to render them fully compostable. And because you won't be able to do without your favorite fragrance, all of our bottles are refillable!

Recycled and recyclable paper packaging

Our packaging is made with Italian paper composed of 40% recycled fibers and is 100% recyclable. The paper is printed with vegetable inks then constructed with water-based glue. Even the protective cellophane encasement to protect the bottles during transport is recyclable.

A commitment to society

In addition to being ecological, our perfume boxes are entirely hand-assembled in three ESAT vocational rehabilitation centers in Carcassonne, France, that are fully committed to the social and professional integration, or reintegration, of people with disabilities.

Made in France

Our perfumes are developed, manufactured and packaged entirely in France.

Jean-Michel Duriez

Jean-Michel Duriez, master perfumer is the nose of the house. Former nose at Patou and Rochas, he also created fragrances for Dolce & Gabbana and Lacoste.

He signs the seven compositions with a unique signature. At the heart of each fragrance runs a single accord made of —

- Maté with its powerful, herbaceous facets

- Osmanthus, a Chinese flower with a sweet, apricot fragrance and a base note elegantly reminiscent of leather.

- Oak moss that features accents of forest and undergrowth, especially evocative of the forests in the Limousin region of France

- The essence of juniper, a burnt wood recalls the scents of leather and chimney fire.

Four ingredients that compose the perfumes, in varying doses, sometimes as a watermark, sometimes more asserted. It is the unique signature one recognises from one fragrance to the next. This accord bears a name: Fleur de Cuir. It finds its full expression in the perfume Cuir de Fleur — which can be worn alone, or laid upon another fragrance of the house to extend its hold.

The Essence of Cologne

Seven fragrances, seven olfactory families, seven central materials.

Intergenerational, ageless, genderless — all conceived as eau de parfum. They are worn alone, layered if desired — a single signature accord runs through them, letting them pair naturally. No rules. Only compatibility.

Seven eaux, seven central materials, one hand, to restore the Cologne to haute parfumerie.

Haute couture perfumes thanks to an outstanding expertise

Just like our shoes, Carlotha Ray perfumes are of the highest quality, crafted by the finest artisans of French high perfumery. The Orpur-labeled raw materials contained in the perfumes guarantee excellence, with the highest-quality natural ingredients selected with the utmost care by Givaudan perfumers.

French designer-architect Julien Gaubert gave the ultra-sleek bottle an art deco allure. The palm leaves, designed by Schwarz Montiel, recall the motifs of her footwear designs, inspired by plants and the perforations of fine porcelain dishes and metal garden tables.

French glassmaker Zignago Vetro Brosse achieved the ambitious feat of manufacturing a remarkably light 106-g (3.74-oz) bottle in a unique design. Finally, we are proud to note that our perfumes are completely developed, manufactured, and packaged in France.

An eco-friendly commitment at each production stage

With 90% ingredients of natural origin, including certified organic vegetable alcohol, and streamlined formulas entirely free of harmful substances, Carlotha Ray fragrances protect your health and the environment.

To minimize our environmental impact and reduce waste as much as possible, the bottle is refillable and made from recycled and recyclable glass. The cardboard box is made of Italian paper composed of 40% recycled fibers, 55% paper from sustainably managed forests, and 5% hemp.
